Advice & Support
Tackling isolation and loneliness
Our well-established and award-winning befriending service, funded from Big Lottery, has been designed to help the most lonely and isolated people of South Ayrshire and building “stronger bridges” within these communities.
How do I get involved ?
If you feel lonely or isolated for whatever reason, befriending services are there to help you. We will help you to connect with people and feel more comfortable in your home and your community. If you are interested or know someone who may benefit, please fill in this referral form and email it to Jim at: Seascape befriendee
alternatively call Jim, our Befriending Co-ordinator on 01292271005 or 07436033464
If you are interested in volunteering with us, we offer award winning training and references (after a qualifying period of 6months), that would be considered highly desirable for any future employer.
After meeting and discussing your interests, we will match you with a service user or, “befriendee,” who will meet up with you on a one to one basis for a few hours, each week. This can be to meet up for a coffee and chat or to take up a hobby, sport or interest, its up to you to decide.
We are always looking for volunteer befrienders, even those with only a few hours a week for a comforting phone call for example.
Alternatively call Jim,on 01292271005 or 07436033464 to make an appointment
By encouraging befriendees and volunteers to attend a group befriending environment we quickly realised that this was a popular idea and although hesitant at first most service users relaxed into this friendly, family group setting. The members decide what and how the group operates, whether it is a weekly quiz for arts and crafts sessions or a general natter coffee and cake session.
Anyone can come along to our group befriending, even matched pairs or those just showing an interest.
We have a few groups running at the moment,
Ten pin bowling group every Wednesday LA Bowl, 10am start
Wednesday afternoon fun club, (regional club) Carrick Bar and grill, Maybole, 12 noon start
Our arts and crafts/ coffee morning group in Tesco’s community room every Thursday 10 am start
Troon breakfast roll and coffee morning (regional) St Meddans Hall, Troon 10 am start
(by referral only)
Our peer group is by referral only and is designed to help those suffering with mental health and or addiction issues. It is not a weekly therapy session but a few hours each week where people can meet with their peers and forget their troubles.
At present we meet each Tuesday afternoon at the Davis snooker hall for an afternoon of pool and snooker.
Day trips/ excursions
Occasionally we organise a day trip or outing down to the beach at Largs for a fish tea and an ice cream or a wander through the gardens at Dumfries House or Culzean castle.
